What does a Court Controller do?

You will help oversee the competition venue and make sure games run smoothly throughout the night.

The role includes:

  • Monitoring courts and keeping games running on time
  • Checking teams, referees and score bench personnel are ready
  • Being the main point of contact for game-night enquiries
  • Supporting referees, particularly junior and developing officials
  • Helping score bench volunteers when required
  • Monitoring player, coach, and spectator behaviour
  • Stepping in early when behaviour or safety concerns arise
  • Checking courts and venue areas for hazards
  • Responding to injuries and incidents
  • Assisting with BasketballConnect, scoreboards and general competition administration
  • Recording and reporting incidents, injuries and venue issues
  • Helping ensure the venue is left clean and organised at the end of the night

The role is about managing the venue and competition

Gold Coast Basketball is looking for confident, reliable people to join our competition team as Court Controllers.

Court Controllers are the person in charge of the venue during competition games and play an important role in making sure each night is safe, organised and runs as close to schedule as possible. They are also the main point of contact for players, coaches, team managers, referees, spectators and venue staff.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Current QLD Blue Card holder – essential
  • Familiar with basketball and basic competition rules
  • Confident communicating with players, coaches, referees, parents and spectators
  • Calm and professional, particularly when dealing with difficult situations
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Organised and able to manage several things at once
  • Comfortable making decisions and following procedures
  • Fair and respectful when dealing with different clubs and teams
  • Willing to be visible and proactive throughout the venue rather than remaining at one desk

Strong communication, organisation, confidence dealing with conflict, quick decision-making and a focus on safety and fairness are all important attributes for the role.

First Aid & CPR

A current First Aid and CPR Certificate is highly regarded.

Court Controllers are responsible for responding to injuries and medical incidents during their shift, so successful applicants who do not currently hold the required training can be supported by Gold Coast Basketball to obtain it.

Interested?

If you know basketball, enjoy working with people and are confident taking responsibility for a busy competition venue, we would love to hear from you.

Please send your resume and availability, including whether you are available Monday nights, Friday nights or both, to:
