Gold Coast Basketball Announces Exciting Changes to Junior Competition Structure

Dear Gold Coast Basketball Community,

We are pleased to announce significant changes to the Gold Coast Basketball Junior competition structure, set to take effect in the Summer Season 2025. These updates are designed to provide more competitive opportunities for our players and ensure a more balanced and fair playing field for all.

Why are we making these changes?

The decision to restructure our competition has been driven by the fact that Gold Coast Basketball currently plays fewer competition rounds than any other association. This limitation is primarily due to restricted access to facilities and the size of our association. We are committed to offering more basketball for all players, and this new structure allows us to deliver more games and more opportunities for our juniors to compete and develop their skills.

Key Changes:

  • Two Seasons Per Year:
    • Summer Season: School Terms 4 and 1
    • Winter Season: School Terms 2 and 3
    • Each season will consist of 14 rounds, followed by Semis and Finals.
    • The traditional grading period will be replaced with a Grading Carnival Weekend to kick off each season.
  • Age Group Changes:
    • Age groups will change in the Summer Season. Players who are currently in the top age group will move up to the next age group.
  • Point-Based System:
    • A new point-based system will be introduced to evenly spread talent across all teams, ensuring fairer competition and reducing the concentration of top-tier rep players in a few teams.

This change reflects our ongoing efforts to make the Gold Coast Basketball experience more exciting, competitive, and accessible for all involved. We look forward to seeing our community thrive with this new structure and are excited to bring even more basketball to all our players.

Further details will follow as we continue working closely with a dedicated working group to ensure a smooth and successful implementation.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to Gold Coast Basketball. We are looking forward to an exciting 2025/2026 season!
