GOLD COAST BASKETBALL REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

Junior and Senior Representative Teams

The Gold Coast Basketball Representative Program is the elite pathway for Gold Coast Basketball, it comprises of two programs:

  1. Seniors (NBL1, QSL1 and QSL-Youth League)
  2. Juniors (U12 – U18)

Juniors

The Junior Representative Program is the next step up from the Gold Coast Junior Basketball League (GCJBL) and provides players from Under-12 to Under-18 with an opportunity to compete against the best players from other Queensland Associations.

Our teams compete in two competitions delivered by Basketball Queensland.

Southern Queensland Junior Basketball Competition (SQJBC)

The Southern Queensland Junior Basketball Competition runs during the following terms each year for the below age groups:

U18 – Grading rounds played end of Term 3, season is played in Term 4

U16 – Grading rounds played end of Term 4, season is played in Term 1

U14 – Grading rounds played end of Term 1, season is played in Term 2

U12 – Grading rounds played end of Term 2, season is played in Term 3

SQJBC Games are played during a series of carnival rounds within the term, games are played against the other South East Queensland based Associations. 

Teams can expect to travel as far as Sunshine Coast to the North and Toowoomba to the West.  Carnival Round games are played on both Saturday & Sunday.

Queensland State Championships – HUB LINK

All teams (U12 to U18) also take part in the Queensland State Championships.

Separate events are held for each age group and gender.  These 4/5-day carnivals are held at locations around the State, this can involve travel to Northern and Central Queensland locations.  These tournaments are where all Queensland Associations compete.

1      Under-18 – January School Holidays

2      Under-16 – Easter School Holidays

3      Under-14 – July School Holidays

4      Under-12 – September School Holidays

Selection Process

All age groups must register for the full “Prep for Rep” program applicable to their age group.

The program is run on Sunday mornings from 8am-10am.

Teams will be selected from this program; no separate trials are held.

Annual Calendar

U18’s

Term 2 – Prep for Rep Program– Representative teams selected from this program

Term 3 – U18 teams start training, grading at the end of the term

Term 4 – U18 season is played

January School Holidays – State Championships

·       To be eligible for a Gold Coast Basketball Representative team in this age group, players must be registered with a Gold Coast Basketball Club and have participated in 50% of regular season games in the Gold Coast Junior Basketball League Winter Competition in the same year.  Grading and finals games do not count towards eligibility.

·       Male athletes: players that participate in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 competitions in the GCJBL (winter competition only) are eligible to register for Prep for Rep and be eligible for rep team selections. Male athletes in all divisions lower are not eligible to trial, club delegates may apply for an exemption to the BDM on bdm@gccrba.com.au on a case by case basis.

·       All girls in all divisions and age groups are eligible to trial

U16’s

Term 3 – Prep for Rep Program – Representative teams selected from this program

Term 4 – U16 teams start training, grading at the end of the term

Term 1 – U16 season is played

April School Holidays – State Championships

·       Boys and Girls from all divisions in the GCJBL (winter competition only) are eligible for Prep for Rep and team selections

 

U12’s

Term 3 – U12 season is played

Additional Eligibility Requirements

·       Players must be financial with Gold Coast Basketball and their associated club

·       If moving from another association, must have meet all applicable Gold Coast Basketball and Basketball Queensland Transfer policy requirements and have an approved transfer form at the start of the Prep for Rep Program.

Seniors

QSL1/QSLYL

Gold Coast Basketball enters one Men’s and one Women’s team into Basketball Queensland’s QSL1 and QSLYL.

These teams are a bridging program between our Junior program to Seniors.

These teams provide the opportunity for our junior players to progress to our senior teams and compete in a premier competition.

To be eligible for these teams, players must have competed in a Gold Coast Basketball Competition and played in 50% of games in the previous year.

Gold Coast Basketball will only accept exemptions to this rule for players that have relocated to the area from 100kms away.

Trials for these teams are held in January of each year and the season runs from April through until July.

NBL1 North

Gold Coast Basketball enters one Men’s and one Women’s team into the NBL1 North Competition.

This is the premier Senior competition for Gold Coast Basketball.

Trials for these teams are held in January of each year and are open to all players
