🏀 Gold Coast Basketball – Junior Comp Update

Rolling out from Summer (Terms 4 & 1) and continuing in Winter (Terms 2 & 3)

Hey GC families, players, coaches and awesome club volunteers! Here’s what’s new, why it’s great, and what you can do next. 💛


⚡ At a Glance (60-second read)

1.     Two fixed seasons each year → Summer (T4–T1) & Winter (T2–T3)

2.     Junior Girls Summer Trial: U14 + U16 combined, divisions by skill

3.     Player Points System to keep teams balanced and games close – Trialling Boys Division 1 in 2025-26 Summer Season

4.     Under 21 “Transition to Seniors” on Thursday nights

5.     Grading carnival weekend before each season + division reviews to keep games close & safe

💡 Why the change?

1.     Consistency for families: seasons mirror school terms

2.     More meaningful court time: clear 14-week blocks + finals

3.     Better balance & safety: grading + points caps reduce blowouts

4.     Stronger development: players progress at the right pace; confidence grows

5.     Smoother ops: easier scheduling, finals planning & coach/ref support


👧 Junior Girls — Summer Trial (U14 & U16 Combined)

1.     One combined comp with divisions by skill/experience

2.     Elite U16 → Open Girls

3.     Defence: Zone in Div 1 only; all other divisions man-to-man to build strong fundamentals

4.     Focus: fairer grading, closer games, safer matchups

5.     Review: we’ll assess the trial after Summer and share outcomes before Winter

🧮 Player Points System (Competitive Balance)

1.     Every player has a points value (experience/rep history)

2.     Teams must be under the cap for their division → balanced rosters + better games – Trailing Division 1 Boys this Summer Season.

3.     Clubs check totals when forming teams; points are reviewed if players move

🔁 U21 “Transition to Seniors” (Thursdays)

1.     Bridge league to step confidently into seniors (senior rules)

2.     When/Where: Thursday evenings (mostly Carrara, some Runaway Bay)

3.     Team setup: No coach/manager required (self-managed)

4.     Fees: Team nomination $135 | Forfeit bond $200 (active all season; refundable/carry-forward) | $100/game

5.     Pay options: Club invoice or TeamPay app (split with teammates)

6.     Clubs: promote to older juniors/school leavers; collect nomination & bond

7.     Players: form a team, choose a captain, complete the EOI
